Description

R.C.Sharma, superannuated from Delhi Fire Service as its Director on 30th November 2010, after about 37 yrs of active service in various fire service Organizations in the country. This included the vital public sector undertakings, such as Bokaro Steel Plant, Delhi Electric Supply Undertaking, Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore and finally at D.F.S, since 1988, joining as Dy. Chief Fire Officer. He got promoted to the rank of CFO in 2002 and as Director in 2009. He also served as D.I.G. (Fire) in C.I.S.F. on deputation for a period of 03 years (1998 to 2001).

He is a science graduate from Punjab University, had initial Fire training at NFSC, Nagpur and subsequently at Fire Service College Moreton in Marsh, U.K ( Divisional Command Course, in1990). He also passed MBA (Disaster Management) from GGS IP University Delhi. He is a fellow member of the Institution of Fire Engineer’s U.K, IFE India and President, IFE UK Northern India Branch.

He is a recipient of Gold Medal from National Civil Defence College, Nagpur and has also received President’s Fire service medal for meritorious services in 1997 and President’ Fire service medal for distinguished services, in 2007.

He after superannuation from DFS as Director, worked with Delhi Fire Service, as a Consultant on project, “Etablishing of new state of the art training center”.

He also worked as consultant with RMSI on the Project (Fire Risk Assessment of the country), a Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs assignment in the yr 2011 to2013 and further as Consultant- Built Environment & Risk Management for the Underwriter Laboratories in India, till year 2015.

Worked with UNDP project for GOI, MHA in 2016, on a short term assignment for preparing a “Framework of Fire Safety Act”

The most Unforgettable fire incident he faced in Delhi was Uphar Cinema Fire, as officer in command, where hundreds of people were rescued, but 59 of them succumbed to the inhalation of smoke from fire.
